currently

Love it.

A yard sale. Ugh.
Normally its a yearly ritual around here. What's the opposite of a hoarder? That's me. If something doesn't get used in a year and I can't come up with a good reason to keep it, it's gone. My family jokes that if something isn't nailed down, I sell it in my yard sale each year.

Having said that, its actually been about 18 months since we had a sale. Say it ain't so right?? So I have a couple more days to sort through all my junk and closets and whatnot. If you're local, stop by and buy my stuff!

Did you guys see Jake's new painting apron earlier this week? That was a small prelude to a new thing around here. I'm calling it

Basically once a week {Tuesdays, hopefully} I'm going to have a fun craft project planned to do with Jake. I love watching him discover his own creativity and displaying all the neat things he makes. He's young, but he seems to really enjoy trying new things. So you'll see some posts about my mini-not-at-all-starving-artist soon!

Boots and scarves!!

Okay, so its still in the high 70's here in Alabama. But I don't care. It's fall. Fall means boots and scarves, dang it. I'm currently wishing I could afford either of these two:
Juletta Riding Boots   /   Infinity Scarf

Alabama football!!
We are pretty hardcore Alabama football fans here in the Wilder household. And if you know anything, even the tiniest little bit, about college football then you know that its extra fun being a fan of this team right now. They're pretty stinkin' awesome.
So if y'all need me on a Saturday afternoon, look no further.

Roll Tide!!

Playing outside with this little guy!
With the temperatures finally lowering, its a lot more tolerable to spend some quality time outside. And boy, does Jake love it!

Being more outgoing. Sometimes people think that because I have a blog and like to share thing here, I'm an extroverted person.

I'm totally not.

Sure, with my circle of friends I'm sarcastic and goofy and fun. But in a crowd of people I don't know, I'd much rather blend in {or hide out}. I'm typically not going to walk up and introduce myself to someone. Heck, or even say hi to an acquaintance in the grocery store {does anyone else sneak around to the next aisle?}. And I'm terrible with smalltalk. It's all just awkward and general pathetic coming from me.

But I'm working on coming out of that shell. I don't want to miss out on getting to know people because I'm too introverted to speak up. And I know sometimes not speaking up can even make you look like a snob. Ack! That's no good.

So help me out, folks. Make me talk to you in Target. Give me the look. The one that says "I know what you wrote on that post that day, Sarah."

Jake's painting apron {tutorial}

Like Mama, like son, right? This kiddo totally needs his own painting apron!

I grabbed a plain $2 kid apron from Hobby Lobby.

I started by adding a pocket.
I cut a piece of fabric down to the size that I wanted. Then folded edges over and pressed them.

I hemmed the top edge by itself {to keep the pocket open}, then sewed down the other three sides to the apron.

I added his name using the ole' freezer paper trick.
{check it out in a tutorial here}

He loved it!

Little man has already managed some pretty awesome art in this apron.
Look out van Gogh!

eighteen months

This guy is the cutest.

And he's 18 months old today. Can you believe it?? I can't.
Or maybe I can. He's been a busy little fella.

: :  Eighteen Month Stats  : :

Height: 32 1/2 inches {55th percentile}
Weight: 23 pounds 6 ounces {45th percentile}

: :  Loves : :

 - Thomas the Train {aka "Tommy" at our house}. Jake is nutso for him. All the time. His first and last word each day is "Tommy".
 - Monkeys. He finds them everywhere, even when you don't see them at first. And he makes the most adorable monkey noise on the planet every time. {video here, you're welcome in advance}.
 - Sleeping. This kiddo still sleeps 12 hours at night and takes a solid two naps a day {praise Jesus}. And when he starts to get tired he just says "night night" and expects to be taken to his crib.
 - Sidewalk chalk. Jake loves to draw all over the driveway. And sometimes all over Momma. I think its one of the hazards of the job, no?
 - TALKING. Holy dictionary Batman. I've read that at 18 months, toddlers say an average of 15-20 words, clearly and correctly. Yeah, not this Chatty Cathy. For fun, we counted all the words we could think of that Jake says often and correctly. Over 130 words, people. It's crazytown.

: :  Dislikes  : :

 - Meat. Still. Ugh.
 - People leaving. It's the end of the world. Always.

And that's it. He's entirely too easy to please.

Jake is such an awesome little kiddo. We're completely spoiled with him.
He mimics everything he hears and picks up on things so quickly. Like, scary quickly. I'm convinced that he's a genius {shocker}.
He finds joy in everything. Everything. Couldn't we all learn something from that?
People love being around him and he loves being around people. I'm so stinkin' proud that he's my little man!

Amazing. He's freaking amazing.
Happy 18 months sweet thing!!

mac and cheese cups {recipe}

Yummy, yum, yum.

These make awesome finger foods and awesome toddler foods!

: :  Ingredients  : :

 - mac and cheese dinner
 - 1/2 cup of sour cream
 - 1 egg
 - 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheese
 - 1/4 cup of cracker crumbs

First preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

And prep your mac and cheese dinner as directed on the box.

Then add the egg, sour cream, and 1/2 cup of shredded cheese.

Next, grease a mini-muffin pan and fill with the mac and cheese mixture.

Top with some cheese and cracker crumbs.

Bake for 15 minutes.

Be sure to let the pan cool for at least 10 minutes. If you remove them too early, they'll fall apart.

These reheat well too. Enjoy!!

makeovers by mom

One of the fun things about being a mom is that it gives me a whole new outlet to create in. And here recently, I've found myself doing a lot of kid centered makeovers.

And there have been toy makeovers.
I picked up these hand carved cars at a yard sale for a quarter and used some leftover paint to revamp them for Jake. He loves them!

And this alphabet set on the fridge was a total eye sore in my kitchen.

Ahh, that's better.

It's pretty great what a little imagination can do!
Here are some other awesome mom makeovers that I've come across:

a Little Tykes car makeover via Teach Mama

playhouse makeover via Emily Ann Interiors

old tv stand to a play kitchen via Giggleberry Creations

Have you done any fun makeovers for your kiddo?

stitch fix review {box #1}

I mentioned awhile back that I had signed up for my first Stitch Fix box.
After reading about several others that had enjoyed the service, I was literally giddy to get the box in the mail!

: :  The Stitch Fix details  : :

 - You fill out a detailed style and sizing survey. It's actually pretty fun!
 - They send you a box of five items specifically picked out for you.
 - There is a $20 styling fee {which is credited towards any purchase you make! Yay!}
 - If you select all five items, you get 25% off your purchase.
 - You can select your own price range.
 - Any items that you elect not to purchase goes right into the return bag. All you have to do is stick it in your mailbox!
 - You give feedback on each item. So as time goes along, the boxes should get better and better as the stylists gain more understanding as to exactly what you love.
{for more details, check it out  h e r e }

Time to share!
I'm pretty self conscious about this part so it feels incredible awkward to me {yikes!}. But I'd like to step out of my comfort zone and to see what you think about my items.

1. Chadrick Dot Chevron Striped Blouse by Sweet Rain
I seriously love this shirt. It fits great and is a comfortable and airy fabric. And this blouse is in my beloved neutral colors! I think it looks great with jeans, but would also look fantastic with a pencil skirt or dress pants. The sleeves are full length button sleeves, but also roll up into a buttoned 3/4 length too {as shown}.
Definitely getting this one!

2. Delano Front Pin-Tuck Tank by Skies are Blue
Like, don't love. The fit on this is not great across the chest {the buttons pull}. And I don't think you can tell but the hem line is much longer in the back than the front - a detail that I'm not wild about.
Big thumbs up for the color and general style, but I don't think I'll be keeping this one.

3. Amani Cowl Neck Sleeveless Blouse by 41Hawthorn
I like the concept of this blouse, but not the blouse itself. I'm not a huge fan of the cowl neckline and the material hangs weird around my waist {no thanks!}. Plus this blouse also has that weird long hem line in the back. I don't even know what to do with that...
 I like the color though. If it were super cheap, I'd probably pick this up to layer with. But as a full price shirt, I'm going to pass.

4. Dovette Draped Detail Dress by Dylan and Rose
Love this! This dress is a light, jersey fabric so its crazy comfortable. And I think its pretty flattering to any figure. The draping in the front keeps me from being self conscious and the neck line is just right.
I love black, but I do have several other black dresses. I sort of wish this was in a different color.
Still thinking of keeping this one though!

5.  Leaf Charms Long Necklace by 41Hawthorn
I don't like this. But I'm very particular about jewelry. I'm actually thinking that I might want to ask them not to send any more jewelry since I'm so hard to please. I'd rather have some more clothing items!

I love that all of the items come with a special styling tag on them as well. It gives you some good ideas of how the item can be worn...

So there we have it! What do you think about my items? Any you love/hate? I'd love some feedback!

Overall, I give this box a B minus.

I think they captured my sense of style pretty well considering this is my first box! I'll definitely be getting one, maybe two items. It was really fun to get a package in the mail and have no clue what could be in it! I felt like I had my own personal shopper.
I'll definitely be passing along plenty of feedback to the stylists and I'm already excited for my next box!
