adding a pop to the bookcase

I've wanted to spice up the bookshelf in my breakfast area for some time.
So this week I added some depth by changing the back of the shelves.

I used simple butcher paper and double sided scotch tape for this! Took me about 40 minutes to measure, cut, and tape {each backing was a different size, boo}.

I decided to go with an easy, temporary backing to see if I even liked it. Other options would be painting the backing or covering with fabric, wood planks, etc.

I guess I could even trying painting a color or a pattern on top of this butcher paper for a great cohesion of something bright and fun, but still not permanent.

So many options for a project like this!

You could use something simple and neutral like these:

Or the bookcase as a bright pop of color!

These pretty patterned ones are fabulous too! Maybe I can work my way up to this.
{that shelf on the right is lined with a $1 roll of paper from Target that I already have... hmm!}

But for now, I'm going to let this new color sink in until I decide where to go next.
