the latest collection

I'm from the Disney generation.

I grew up with Aladdin, The Lion King, and Peter Pan. We had all the VHS tapes, soundtracks, and probably more random Disney toys than any kids ever need. Depending on the day, I wanted to be Pocahontas, Ariel, or Belle.
 I'll never forget the Sunday afternoons when my mom would take us kids to the drive-in theater to watch the latest animated movie. We'd have a huge tub of popcorn and the windows down. Awesome childhood memories.
 I'll also never forget the afternoon that I didn't take a nap and she made me stay home from seeing The Jungle Book. Scarred for life, Mom.

And I'm proud to say that at only 6 months, Jake is already hooked on Disney. We took a trip to the Gulf coast a few weeks back and if his Disney station wasn't being played nonstop, it was all tears.
 How do they know?!!?

But all this Dumbo and Hercules talk has gotten J.B. and I thinking about starting a Disney movie collection for Jake. All the classics, of course. I have no idea what's on kid's television these days. And honestly, I don't have a lot of hope for it. I'd much rather him watch the Fox and the Hound than that stuff anyway.

So we made our Disney/Pixar list and began purchasing a few here and there. There are a lot of "must haves" so I'm glad we started early...

The green astrick denotes those that we've already bought.

I'm loving this collection quite frankly. And now I have an excuse to go back and rewatch these!

What do you think? Did we leave any out?
Do you have any childhood favorites that should be added to Jake's list?

UPDATE: Thanks to comments and many emails we have a few more movies to add to our list. Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming!

fall leaf centerpiece {tutorial}

This is a simple little seasonal project that I did a couple of weeks ago.
I gave it a few days and then officially decided... I like it!

Want to try this one yourself?
You just need poster board, some fake leaves, and a hot glue gun. Simple enough, right?

I grabbed this box of leaves at Pottery Barn.

Cut a circle out of your poster board. This one is about a foot wide.

Then start gluing the leaves. Begin from the outer edges and work your way in. Leave the ends of the leaves poking out to create some volume.

Keep gluing until the poster board is covered.
I also went back and added a few leaves here and there so that it didn't look too symmetrical. Is that weird? Oh well... I like it better this way.

I tossed a couple of extra leaves on the table around the centerpiece just for good measure.
Hurricane vase and a simple candle on top and wa-la!

I so love enjoy a pretty dining room!
It just makes you feel fancy.

duds for my dude

I've told you guys before that I'm beyond addicted to buying Jake baby clothes. Yup, no rehab yet for this girl. I'm still at it. There's just something so fun about those tiny little button ups and itty bitty blue jeans. I can't help myself!

I seriously love dressing Jake up. Geez, its a good thing I had a boy first! If he had been a girl I'm sure we'd be filing bankruptcy for all the fru-fru cuteness I could buy!!

And since we do enjoy a good baby fashion show here at the Wilder household, I thought I'd share where we buy most of his clothes.
Almost everything Jake wears is Baby Gap and Carter's. We also occasionally find some good things at Target and Old Navy. I'm a pretty hardcore bargain shopper. I've caught almost all of his latest duds on sale:

{ sneakers / hat / toms }

Anyway, you get it. He's a little doll.
That I like to dress up as a mini-J.B..

half birthdays

Guess who's six months old today!!

I absolutely cannot believe that this little man is six months old. Watching him grow and learn has been one of the most amazing things I've ever experienced. Every day is a new adventure and Jake is so curious about the world around him!

Here are some highlights:

 - He's sleeping through the night! We used the SleepEasy method around 4 months to help but he took to it without skipping a beat. Now it's a solid 11 hours every night. {Yay!!}

 - He's a rolling machine. Seriously guys, this kid is the ultimate roller. It's all he wants to do. And he is so pleased with himself about it. He'll roll, then giggle, then roll, then giggle. It's beyond adorable.

 - He's trying so hard to sit by himself and to crawl. Both of these are pretty awesome milestones that we're looking forward to. Each day Jake gets a little closer and Mommy is standing by with her camera ready to capture that perfect moment.

 - He loves trying new foods. Now that we're in the stage where Jake can eat baby food and start to taste some of the "real deal", he's having a blast gnawing on anything he gets his hands on. Right now he's very big into fruits and likes to turn his nose up at veggies.

 - He loves our puppies! I can't exactly say the same for them quite yet since what Jake really likes to do is pull and pinch at them, but I'm sure they'll come around. :)

Overall, he's an incredibly happy and friendly little baby with his daddy's sweet disposition and laid back attitude. He spends most of his day exploring and learning and giggling.

And he'll melt your heart in an instant. I promise.

Since we missed out on sharing some of the previous months, here are the pictures of our little man:

 He's changed so much!!
{p.s. We can't figure out who he looks like. What do you think??}

And of course, what fun would this be without sharing a few of the out takes from this morning...

Happy Half-Birthday, Jake!!
We love you to the moon and back!!

autumn recipes

It's that time of year when we all crank out our favorite fall recipes.

 Sometimes they're dips and appetizers to eat during the game.

Sometimes they might be tasty desserts.

 And sometimes they might be the perfect drink to warm us right to the core.

I have a few of my own favorite autumn recipes. Like J.B.'s chili and my yummy homemade apple pie! Feel free to wander over to the recipe page to try a few out.

So what are your favorites? Send them my way and I'll be glad to whip them up this fall!

it's fall, y'all

It's September and I can officially get excited about fall! This means football, back to school sales, leaves changing into gorgeous colors, and my very favorite time of the year to decorate.

 I've definitely already put out some of my standbys from last year,
like my fall ruffle wreath,

 and my stitched book pages.

I also got my dining room in fall mode with some of my favorite Pottery Barn napkins and a new leaf centerpiece.
 {tutorial coming soon}

 Add in a few little items like pillows and mums on the porch and cinnamon scented pine cones and I'd say my fall decor is off to a pretty good start.

I love being an autumn girl.

absence makes the heart grow fonder

May. I haven't updated since May. My goodness, I've missed this blog so much!

And it's been the longest four months of my life.

When I last mentioned that I was taking a break to concentrate on Jake's eating issues for a few days, I had no idea of what would soon be in store for my little man or our family. I thought it'd be a little blogging vacay, not weeks of  hospital stays, testing, and endless medical research. Even now, we're still in a diagnostic and testing phase. Our story is a tough one and this chapter of it hasn't quite ended yet. So someday soon, I hope to share everything with you guys publicly. Until then, please keep my son and family in your thoughts and prayers.

But you can rest easy that in a general sense, our sweet little boy Jake is doing amazingly. He's almost 6 months old (what?!) and happens to be the most amazing kid on the planet. I absolutely marvel at him every single day. His adorable disposition constantly melts my heart. Despite everything that Jake has already had to go through, he is the happiest, sweetest little boy around. It just goes to show that God knows exactly what He's doing.

I'll definitely be catching you up on more adorable pictures from the last few months
{you're welcome in advance!}, and I also plan on getting back to the grindstone here on the blog.

In my time away, I realized what an amazing outlet this blog and all my projects have been for me. While certain aspects of life may still be in the air, I think this type of thing really helps keep me grounded.

I'm officially back! Let's get this show on the road!
