homemade apple pie {recipe}



There's just something about a hot apple pie in the fall. This is one of my very very favorite homemade desserts and a great one for your Thanksgiving dinner.
{I'm taking it over to my parent's house this year!}

It also doesn't hurt that it's both completely homemade and completely simple. I love that typically the only ingredient that I have to buy is the apples!

Ingredients:

 Pie Crust:
1 1/2 cups of  flour 
1 teaspoon of salt 
1 tablespoon of sugar 
1/2 cup of  vegetable oil 
2 tablespoon of milk  

Filling:  
4-5 tart apples {I use Gala} 
2/3 cup of sugar 
1 teaspoon of cinnamon 
4 tablespoons of butter {melted}

Topping: 
1/2 cup of butter {melted}
1/2 cup of sugar or brown sugar {I like to mix half and half} 
1 cup of flour


Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. 

Then we start with the pie crust.
Mix flour, salt, sugar together into a bowl. And mix oil and milk together in a separate bowl. Then pour the oil/milk over flour mixture. Blending with fork is easiest.




Press into pie pan with fingers. Line bottom and sides evenly.




Next we move over to our apple filling. 
Mix sugar, cinnamon, and butter together. Then pour this over your sliced apples.




And pour into the crust.

Finally, the topping.
Mix butter, sugar, and flour together. Then pour this over the apples. The mixture will be a little thick and isn't designed to cover like a blanket so you'll still see some apple edges and shapes poking out.





Now bake for 50-60 minutes. Try to contain yourself as the amazing smell fills your kitchen...




I love to eat it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!!
