the scarf hanger {tutorial}

I really do live for the weekends. Friday night is always date night, Saturday is project day, and Sunday is church and relaxing.

Not to mention, it was 65 degrees today! Now that's the Alabama weather I know and love.

So I got this little diddy done...

Here's the back story. When we moved into our home, I loved the size of our big master bedroom but didn't care for the two small closets it had. The house has plenty of bedrooms so we decided to get creative and make the bedroom next to the master ... into a closet. Yes, you read that right. We made a bedroom into a closet. Since there was a shared wall, it was really just a matter of having a contractor move the door from the hallway to the shared wall of the master. Then putting up all the hanging/stacking closet-y stuff.

I've got to be honest ... it's the best closet ever. Seriously. Space for a ridiculous amount of clothes {and shoes} all around the walls and a big comfy ottoman in the middle of the room. Our house is a cape code style, so since its one of the front upstairs bedroom, it also has a dormer in it {you know, little hallway-ish space the leads to a window}.

We decided this would be a great place for scarves, belts, hats, etc.

Cue scarf hanger how-to...

I got my honey to cut some 1x2's down to two foot lengths.

Then he attached them together with a brace on the back side.
I like the unbalanced look. Who says they all have to be even?

This thing is around 4 feet long -ish, I think.
{we're very scientific}
Spray painted it.

Laid out some random hooks, then nailed them down.
{got most of these hooks at Hobby Lobby}

Then up on the wall.

 {the red doorknob hook and the barn door hook are my favs}

And some scarves!

My scarves are so happy to finally have a hanging home!

 Cheers to a successful weekend!

***UPDATE***

I've had several people contact me about how the scarf hanger is attached to the wall. To see that and the new jewelry wall hanging on the opposite wall, check out this post!

  1. That is such a cute scarf hanger! You sound about like us on the garage thing. We have so much stuff still out there (or in our basement) left over from our move in.
    I can't wait for Spring so I can have a massive yardsale!

  2. I'm so proud that we finally got around to cleaning it out yesterday! We'd just had a yard sale this summer so what was left was mostly junk anyway. 3 trips to the city dump and ta-da!
    Let me know about that yard sale!
    Godspeed in your cleaning endeavors! :)

  3. Very cute! How did you hang it to the wall? It seems like regular picture hangers might not be quite secure enough for something that might get bumped around a lot (putting scarves on and off) so I'd love to hear what works for you. Again- love it!
